MCP Protocol Engineer
Design and implement Model Context Protocol servers and tooling. Shape the future of AI agent infrastructure.
About the Role
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is the universal bridge between foundation models and external tools, databases, and environments. You will architect Hanzo's MCP ecosystem: high-throughput transport protocols, sandboxed runtime servers, schema validation, and multi-agent coordination layers.
Hanzo builds an open AI cloud — compilers, models, distributed infrastructure, and agent tooling. Our codebases are predominantly open source, and team members operate with high autonomy and end-to-end ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and maintain high-performance MCP servers connecting models to codebases, cloud infra, and enterprise data.
Implement secure Hanzo Visor, WebAssembly, and container sandboxes for untrusted agent tool execution.
Design protocol extensions for streaming responses, binary payloads, and distributed MCP federations.
Build developer SDKs in TypeScript, Python, and Go for authoring and hosting MCP servers.
What We're Looking For
Experience with protocol design, RPCs (gRPC, JSON-RPC, SSE, WebSockets), and type-safe schema validation (JSON Schema, Protobuf).
Proficiency in TypeScript, Go, or Rust.
Experience with secure sandbox execution environments (Docker, Firecracker, Hanzo Visor, Wasm).
Passion for developer experience, clean documentation, and robust error handling.
Nice to Have
Active involvement in the MCP open source ecosystem or agent frameworks.
Background in identity, authentication, and capability-based authorization.
